Even after trying to install MM2.1 under Win7 - it still crashes. Since I have triple-boot (XP-Vista-Win7) on 3 different partitions, I just boot into Xp and use the capture feature. I then re-boot into Win7 to edit. Ok, First let me remind you that Windows live Photo Gallery according to the website will capture from a webcam etc.
And you can then use MM 2.6 or WLMM to edit. I was hoping to get the WLMM beta guys to add this feature. So we could capture and Edit from the same program instead of one to capture and one to edit. As far as using MM 2.1 on Win 7 Install MM 2.6 On Win 7 Then you can start MM 2.1 from the XP partition.
Make your job easier with Adobe Acrobat DC, the trusted PDF creator. Use Acrobat to convert, edit and sign PDF files at your desk or on the go.
But again this is a hack but you have a licensed copy of win XP so you should be covered. I want to stress though that I have requested this feature to the WLMM beta and I hope you will too, It takes alot of people suggesting a feature to have it implemented.
This is a worthwhile feature and the MM team may not realize how much some of us relied on it. This is a windows live Issue so you will have to go there to give your feedback.

I still think that MMM is one of the BEST video editing software. But with the new version I can only capture (import) files already on my computer. I can no longer choose webcam, video camera or vcr for capturing films etc. Movie Maker 2.6 is not preferable in any circumstance as it has less Functionality than MM2.1, There was a specific reason it was released. It was to overcome hardware issues in Vista.
You can follow the link below for a more detailed description. The most complete features set was probably in MM2.1 which does allow you to import from your webcam or other video source. Unfortunately although it is freely downloadable it will not install on Win 7 but it will run. I was able to run it from My win XP partition with Win 7 and it seemed to run fine.
If you Install Windows live photo gallery and Windows live Movie make Beta you can use Photo Gallery to Capture and use movie maker Beta to edit, I would send Feedback to the Live movie maker beta and let them know you would like this ability im WLMM as it is currently the only version of Movie Maker under development. I know this is not the best way but you have to let the beta team know how you use movie maker in hopes that they will make the changes. I have to wade in here as well, whilst I love windows 7 what you've done with Vista's Movie Maker and the absolutely (it's hard not to swear here) dreadful Live Movie Maker Beta it's been replaced with is short of criminal! Now I can't Capture from my DV cam, it doesn't auto detect and say hey want to import some video. I have no time line, I can't see what transitions I'm using.
It's dreadful Microsoft, absolutely DREADFUL. Pull thy finger out and make the Live Movie Maker better with similar or better functionality, and while were waiting give us a download for the old one!!!
