Hi Themopar, Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums. From the issue description I understand that the Windows 8 computer will not wakes up from sleep.

If you’ve read some of my other articles here on the site, you probably know I’m a big fan of compact laptops with matte screens, that’s why my main-driver.

I would suggest you to perform the methods and check if it helps. Method 1 Let’s run the power troubleshooter and check if that helps. A) Press ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard. B) In the search box, type ‘Troubleshooting’, and press enter. C) Click on ‘System and Security’ and click on Power click on next to run the troubleshooter. Method 2 I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the display card drivers in Windows 7 compatibility mode and check if that help. Step 1: Follow the steps provided below to uninstall the display drivers.

A) Move the mouse to bottom left corner and right-click on the ‘ Start icon’. B) Select ‘ device manager’. C) Expand ‘ Display adapter’ and right-click on ‘display adapter’ and select ‘uninstall’. Step 2: Follow these steps to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if that helps. A) Download the display drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

B) Right-click on the driver and click on ‘ properties’. C) Click on the ‘ compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘ Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select Windows 7 operating system from the drop down. D) Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘OK’ and run the file to install it. Method 3 Follow these steps and check if it helps.

A) Press Windows Key +W, type ' Shutdown Settings' b) Click the ' Settings' Icon on the right of the screen. C) Click ' Change what the power buttons do' on the left of the screen. D) Click ' Change settings that are not currently available' e) Scroll to bottom of Dialog box. F) Uncheck the box titled ' Turn on fast startup (recommended).' G) Click ' Save Changes' button. H) Exit Power Options Dialog box. Method 4: I would have you download all the latest Windows Updates.

You can also download the latest BIOS and firmware updates from the manufacturer’s website. You may ask the manufacturer for assistance in this regard.

Disclaimer: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Hi I have a similar issue with Sleep in Windows 8 Pro (64-bit). Normal shut down / boot is fine.

Hibernate is fine Only sleep is a problem. If sleeping for a short period with the powerlight pulsing the system resumes fine. However if left for an extended period, e.g. Then the powerlight is out. Pressing the power button result in failure to boot - powerlight comes on briefly, then POST, then dies. Second press boots the system, stating in the log that the system failed to shut down cleanly.

So basically in the sleep condition at some point the system 'powers down' ' 'dies', this is neither hibernate (which is set to never) or shutdown. And neither has the battery depleted causing a low power / critical level condition causing hibernate as the battery will be close to full (>90%) on a successful boot. Kairosoft Torrent 2013 Honda. Hi, I discovered the cause of my problem - Intel Rapid Start Technology (IRST). Basically there is a hidden hibernation partition (different to hiberfil.sys) used by IRST. The IRST is set to activate by default (on my system) after 120 minutes.

So after 2 hours of sleeping, drive activity would commence and the active user session in RAM would be written to the Hibernation Partition (8GB in my case). The problem came during resume, when pressing the power button, it failed to restore the session from the SSD to the RAM, and I got a failed boot. A second press cold booted the system to a fresh desktop with any unsaved work lost. A workaround in my case was to disable IRST either in the bios or in the systray utility.

Ultimately the solution was a new motherboard, which was put in by Dell yesterday. Sleep / IRST & Hibernate all work fine now. Interestingly hiberfil.sys (6.6GB) is ONLY used for booting in this setup: Sleep - RAM Extended Sleep (IRST) - hibernation partition Re-boot - is now (under windows 8 with 'fast startup' enabled) effectively a 'cold boot' ie read from disk Shut down / PowerOn - is now effectively a 'warm boot' as it reads from hiberfil.sys So there is some disk redundancy with the 2 systems (IRST and 'Windows Hibernate'), you could effectively utililize just one system with little difference in performance.

To be honest I am hard pressed to measure any difference in speed between any of the following: • a hiberfil.sys assisted boot • a IRST 'resume' • a Windows Hibernate resume All of these are getting my system to a login prompt in about 6 secs from power button press. G:) Couple of other points: S0 = on S1, S2, S3 are various forms of sleep, depending on manufacturer, generally RAM is powered all else is off. S4 is hibernate or IRST S5 is off / shut down Gray. At least 14 MS users have come here hoping for an answer to a Question.!! None have received a valid answer. The 'Moderator' of the thread only adds to the confusion by suggesting the thread be close. This suggestion is now removed or deleted; yet the Moderator remains silent. So far, 14 MS users have checked the 'Me Too' Box confirming they 'had' the same Question. A Post by Mr. Kumar, a Community Star and MS Support Engineer, neither helps nor helped *no one.
