Xp Install I386 Asms
I have downloaded from Microsoft TECHNET the official SP3 Technet ISO. (Not RC the full RTM). I integrated the included EXE in the downloaded ISO it into an INSTALL CD of SP2 PRO (successful) and then burned back to a CD. I have run the XP Pro SP3 install off the new media and it has got to the 2nd phase (passed the text-based install) and has asked for the file 'asms' on the Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD!
Trying to install Windows XP Pro on top of Windows XP Home. No connection to the internet (on purpose.) Booted from the 6 floppy disks downloaded from microsoft. All the java files (clspack.exe, javacypt.dll, msawt.dll, dx3j.dll and some others), it tells me it can't load them. I escape to skip them.
What is this and why? Integration was successful.
CD is readable and verified burn?! Just says in the dialog box the message above with D: i386 Please help! Evening Guy did you look at this kb from Microsoft? My guess would be the speed at which you burned the cd dvd might have been too fast. What rate did you burn?
Also verification was checked by guessing what you stated readable and verified burn. Did you use the official Microsoft method? *have to ask* Which method to integrate. I would attempt to see if the methods described in the NTFS mentioned towards the end of the kb helps you out.
Other wise you may have to slow down your burning speed. I could be wrong here, but dont know your burning speed as I mentioned. Which media are you using? At least one recommended by your cd dvd burning hardware correct? Hp C7438a Usb Device Driver on this page. Also look here former Microsoft support person, hints at a few things to look at Hope this helps you.

I've personnally had this issue happen with cdroms before. Usually it's a speed issue or bad cd/ cdrom or both! Usually it's a speed issue. Plextor was notorious for this issue concerning cdroms (SCSI in particular)!
The cdrom couldn't read the cd properly because of timing and reading data! Also, you may need to check your cables for your cdrom because they may be getting bad. IDE cables do go bad! Lastly, you may want to make sure your cdrom is clean in side! They do get dirty in side.
I hope this helps! Take Care, thesunnytexas. Airbus Series Vol.1 Deluxe Edition more.
